DKT — which stands for “dessert kine thingz” — originally started in 2024, according to business owners Janey and Ray Decena.
“We started with desserts — selling to friends and family, and posting about them on Facebook Marketplace,” Janey Decena says. “However, my husband and I always wanted a café of our own.”
The couple opened a dessert trailer in Kapolei almost one year ago, but recently changed their concept to focus on serving coffee, matcha and non-caffeinated drinks.
“People say it’s like a dessert in a cup, but coffee-style,” Decena says.
Since they didn’t exclusively sell desserts — like cheesecakes, cupcakes and Dubai chocolate-inspired treats — anymore, the couple changed the business name from Dessert Kine Thingz to DKT Jesus & Coffee.
“We re-branded to DKT; it could mean different things like Da Kings Table or Da Kings Trailer, since we are a Christian faith-based business,” Decena says. “We decided to just keep the DKT because that’s how we started, and we wanted to keep the original name.”
The business just celebrated the grand opening of its new storefront in Wahiawā. Finding a location for a café has been in the works for a while, according to Decena.
“It was hard to find the right one; the rent is so high,” Decena says.
The business’s drink menu features coffees, matchas and specials. Drinks on the menu are named after books of the Bible, according to Decena. So far, Colossians — a Cookie Butter latte — and Song of Songs, a s’mores latte, are customer favorites.
“The Colossians has been the bestselling one,” she says. “It has Cookie Butter, vanilla cold foam and Cookie Butter crumbles. The Cookie Butter is probably my favorite one, and I also like the white chocolate macadamia latte.”
Drinks usually come in 24-ounce sizes ($9.75 for coffees, $10.75 for matcha). All espresso- and matcha-based drinks come with a vanilla cold foam. The biz also offers flavors like pandan, banana bread and ube.
With the opening of the Wahiawā store, Decena is excited to reach more customers.
“Not a lot of people know about our Kapolei location,” she says. “Our doors are open to everyone; we respect everyone’s beliefs and decisions. We are here to show them what the love of Christ truly feels like; we want them to know they are loved by Jesus.”
The café’s Wahiawā location is open from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays to Wednesdays. Its Kapolei trailer is open from 6 to 11 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
