The sound of music will once again float across Kapiʻolani Regional Park — and the nearby Honolulu Zoo — thanks to the reopening of the Tom Moffatt Waikīkī Shell.

The concert space has been closed for about six months to accomodate the updates, which included about $585,000 in renovations, according to representatives of the City and County of Honolulu, which had its Department of Enterprise Services complete the renovations. The first shows in the upgraded space will be Kehlani’s Crash World Tour on March 26, followed by Boyz II Men on April 26.

The venue includes a large covered stage, dressing rooms, professional lights and sound equipment and outdoor seating for 2,400 stadium chairs, in addition to 6,000 lawn chairs.

“Listening to people reminisce about their favorite memories at the Tom Moffatt Waikīkī Shell — like watching a concert with a bright, full moon slowly rising above Diamond Head in the background, it reinforced our resolve to continue investing in the maintenance of such an iconic facility,” said Dita Holifield, director of the department of enterprise services, in a written statement. “We are extremely fortunate to have such a charming outdoor venue where we are able to host an array of live performances.”

The capital improvements addressed drainage issues and added premium seating near the stage. The work also included electrical upgrades and the addition of a secured barrier for theater equipment.

Tom Moffatt Waikīkī Shell was built in 1956. The venue is home to concerts, cultural events, graduation ceremonies and annual community events, such as Lei Day.

Mark your calendars for these future events at Tom Moffatt Waikīkī Shell.
