Everyone’s looking to save money and get the most bang for their buck. This series will show you where you can save while still savoring a good meal.

100 Sails Restaurant & Bar is popular for its brunch and dinner buffets, but the eatery’s revamped happy hour is a deal.

The eatery’s happy hour is served daily from 5 to 6:30 p.m. It’s worthwhile to note that the happy hour portions are the same as those in the dishes featured on the a la carte menu — but for a discounted price.

tater tots

Tater tots with crunchy kakimochi? Yes, it’s addictive as it sounds. If you’re dining with a large group, get one (or two) of these savory tots to tide you over until the rest of your dinner arrives.

foie gras sando

This is the most expensive dish on the happy hour menu, but then again, it’s foie gras. The buttery brioche is the perfect vehicle to hold foie gras, apricot cranberry chutney and pistachio butter all together. It sounds like an unconventional combo, but it works — the chutney’s sweeter, jam-like texture cuts the richness of the foie gras. This slider-sized sando is the perfect petite portion because it’s utterly indulgent.

Ginger scallion deep-fried chickpea fritters (aka, panisse) are topped with ‘ahi tartare, beef fat glazed maitake mushrooms and American wagyu tartare. These one-bite wonders are a nice sampler of spreads, instead of committing to a full order of one. However, if you have a favorite — like the ‘ahi tartare — you can order it off the a la carte menu.

If you order the farm vegetable crudite ($12) — which comprises assorted veggies, hummus and grilled sourdough bread — be forewarned, you probably won’t be able to stop eating that creamy, flavorful hummus. It’s a nice choice if you want to eat your greens (and to off-set those tots).

This eatery focuses on fresh island cuisine with an emphasis on sustainability and using produce from local farms, which is especially evident in its salads and veggie dishes. The Kula Caesar salad ($10) features Ho Farms tomato, anchovy, seeded croutons and Parmesan. The lettuce is refreshing, with lots of added crunchiness from the seeded croutons.

Happy hour beverages include cacao-strawberry and citrus cocktails ($10 each); hibiscus or calamansi-mango mocktails ($7 each) and glasses of red, white or sparkling wines ($10 each). The “first pour” option is popular among customers — it features the diner’s choice of soda or juice, paired with their hard liquor of choice (options include Tito’s vodka, Tanquery gin, Koloa white rum, Maker’s Mark Bourbon and more).
