If you’re craving crispy Korean fried chicken, you’re in luck — a new spot recently opened in Waikīkī.

Known for its Korean fried chicken that’s crunchy on the outside and juicy inside, bb.q Chicken recently opened its third location. This store is located in Waikīkī Shopping Plaza; its entrance is off of Royal Hawaiian Avenue. While there is limited seating both inside the outside the store, this location is convenient for takeout.

Fun fact: “bb.q” in the business’s name stands for “best of the best quality,” when it comes to chicken that boasts a crispy exterior and lots of flavor.

This location’s menu is mostly the same as those at the other two stores in Kāhala and ‘Aiea. Choose from chicken wings or boneless chicken, chicken sandwiches, tteokbokki (popular Korean street food dish that includes soft rice cakes in a spicy sauce) and sides ranging from kimchi and honey garlic fries to fried dumplings and mac salad.

Selecting a flavor is the most difficult part, simply because there are so many options. Choices include black pepper, honey garlic, gang Jeong, golden fried and more. For those who love spice, options include hot spicy, golden fried hot, secret spicy, spicy galbi and wings of fire. The last flavor is marked with four chili pepper icons as a warning. We’re told that golden fried, soy garlic and honey garlic are the bestselling flavors.

If you want to try more than one flavor, you can get a full order of wings ($33.99 for 18 pieces) and get half with one flavor and half of another for a $1 more.

The golden fried chicken wings don’t disappoint; they always deliver a satisfying crunch with each bite. I love the slightly sweeter flavor from the honey garlic.

Of the different chicken sandwiches, we’re told the secret sauce option ($8.99) is the most popular. This sauce boasts a sweet and tangy flavor with a slight kick. Sandwiches are available a la carte ($8.99) or as part of a combo pack ($13.99) with fries and a drink.
