The inaugural Summer Sizzle Music Festival is set to take over the Great Lawn at the Bishop Museum this Saturday, May 17. Featured entertainers include Sammy Johnson, Anuhea and Mana‘o Company.
Headliners Anuhea and Sammy Johnson perform at 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., respectively. The summer music festival is open to all ages. Admission is free for keiki five years old or younger. The event is being presented by Artistry Events, Kurious Productions and Heineken.
The opening artists include Peni Dean followed by Kawao. Other featured performers include:
Sammy Johnson: This Australian native “embraces his Maori and Polynesian roots to create positive and uplifting music,” according to Spotify. As an artist, he gets about 450,000 monthly listeners on the streaming platform. His music blends “island reggae, soul and jazz vibes with heartfelt lyrics,” according to Spotify.
Anuhea: A Hawaiian contemporary artist, she credits Bob Marley, Jack Johnson, India Arie and Jason Mraz for influencing her work, according to Spotify. She gets about 350,000 monthly listeners on the platform.
Mana‘o Company: This Jamaican reggae group with more than 20 years of musical experience, works acoustic guitar, ‘ukulele and steel guitar into their songs. The award-winning artists won five Nā Hōkū Hanohano awards for their album “Spread a Little Aloha.”
Tickets start at $45 for general admission through Friday, May 16. Tickets purchased the day of the event are $50 online and $60 at the door. Get tickets.
