Fumi’s Kahuku Shrimp was a North Shore staple since the late ’90s. However, townies can now enjoy the eatery’s original garlic butter shrimp, as the business just celebrated its grand opening at Ala Moana Center.

Fumi’s has been serving both locals and visitors for more than 30 years with its family recipes, according to business owner Chisato Saeki. She says the Kahuku store closed around two years ago, making the new Honolulu store the solo Fumi’s location.
“We soft opened in Ala Moana Center about a month ago, on April 22,” she says. “The original garlic butter shrimp and the hot and spicy shrimp are from the old location; everything else on the menu is all updated.”

While you can’t go wrong with the OG garlic butter shrimp, the business’s refreshed menu includes a variety of new flavors. Customers can choose from orange shrimp ($19.95), lilikoʻi lemon shrimp ($21.95) and salt and pepper fried shrimp ($19.95).
“Locals are very familiar with lilikoʻi,” Saeki says. “That’s a really refreshing flavor that I wanted to add to the menu. I’m hoping that will add some fresh taste to the original menu.”

Those who enjoy spicy food can look forward to the eatery’s Szechuan mala shrimp ($21.95), which will be added soon to the menu, according to Saeki.
“We have a lot of anticipation for that; I’m super excited about that one, too,” she says.
