It’s prime lunch time on day three of Kevin’s Kitchen being open … and the eatery is packed with large groups dining in. That’s a good sign for the new business, but just be forewarned that there might be a wait, depending on the time of your visit.

The eatery serves up Cantonese and Hong Kong-style cuisine. The menu is huge — many dishes are designed to share family style, but there’s also a butcher counter within the restaurant. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., customers can get one- or two-choice combo plates and entrees with choices like char siu, roast pork, shoyu chicken and roast duck.

So far, the roast duck/char siu combo ($13 mini, $15 large) has been a customer favorite. Other options include char siu and roast pork combos (mini $11, large $13); pork chops with black pepper sauce on rice ($13.95), beef chow funn ($11.95) and braised chicken feet and spareribs on rice ($11.95). Half ($20) and whole ($40) roast ducks are also available.

The eatery’s regular menu — which differs from the bentos and lunch specials — features a variety of appetizers, soups, seafood specialties, veggies/tofu dishes, sizzling platters, fried rice, noodles and poultry (chicken, pork and beef). Overwhelmed yet? I certainly was, and resolved to return with a larger group.

We’re told the shrimp with walnuts and mayonnaise sauce ($18.95) is already a hit among locals. While it’s under the seafood section of the menu, it could serve as an appetizer for a group. The shrimp is sufficiently crispy without being overly battered.

If you need something to balance your savory meal, check out the eatery’s Hong Kong-style milk tea ($4.95) or Hong Kong-style lemon tea ($4.95). You can order iced teas for $1 more; the iced milk tea tasted especially refreshing on a warm afternoon.
