A public paddle-out is scheduled in honor of the late Clyde Aikau on Thursday, June 26 in Waikīkī.

The public is invited to gather at the Duke Kahanamoku Statue on Kalākaua Avenue before the paddle-out, which begins at 7:45 a.m.

The event, titled “The Last Ride with Uncle Clyde Aikau,” is being organized by the Aikau family. Attendees may bring loose flowers instead of lei and will be asked to remove string from lei before throwing flowers into the ocean.

Clyde Aikau, the younger brother of Eddie Aikau, passed away at his Waimānalo home on Saturday, May 3, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 75.

While Eddie Aikau is known as one of the world's most iconic surfers and legendary watermen, Clyde created his own legacy in the water while perpetuating his brother's legacy.

Clyde Aikau was instrumental in the creation of the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational, viewed in the surfing community as the sport's rarest and most iconic event. Clyde Aikau won the second competition himself in 1986.
