Ways to celebrate King Kamehameha on Oʻahu this weekend

A floral parade and festival will mark celebrations of King Kamehameha I this Saturday, June 14, on Oʻahu. Events already occurred on Hawaiʻi Island, but there are more ahead on Kauaʻi, Molokaʻi and Maui.

While the state holiday for King Kamehameha I was Wednesday, June 11, celebrations for the ruler who united the islands continue this weekend. Watch video of the lei draping ceremony for the statue of King Kamehameha I at Aliʻiōlani Hale, which occurred Friday, June 13.

Here are a couple of the activities happening on Oʻahu on Saturday, June 14:

Floral Parade. The 108th King Kamehameha Celebration Floral Parade starts at 9 a.m. and stretches from ʻIolani Palace to Kapiʻolani Park. Here is the route. The parade includes floral floats, marching bands and riders on horseback, as well as representatives of Hawaiʻi’s royal societies. Can’t be there in person? Watch live streaming video.

Hoʻolauleʻa. Following the parade, there will be a celebration from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Queen Kapi’olani Park.

A number of events have already occurred on Hawaiʻi Island, but there are more planned on Kauaʻi, Molokaʻi and Maui. Details.
