Saint Louis senior shortstop Bruin Agbayani was the lone Hawai‘i high schooler invited to the MLB Combine, a showcase event for the country's top professional prospects at the amateur level.
The 2025 MLB Combine began on Tuesday at Chase Field in Phoenix, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks. A total of 322 prospects accepted invitations to the event, which runs through Saturday.
Agbayani was recently named the Gatorade Hawai‘i baseball Player of the Year after guiding Saint Louis to the state title with his father, Benny, coaching the team.
In the 2025 HHSAA Tournament, Agbayani went 8-for-14 with a home run, two triples and two doubles. On the mound, he had three saves during the season, including one against Mililani in the state tournament.
Agbayani is considered the top pro prospect in the state, regardless of level, ahead of the 2025 MLB Draft, which runs from July 13-14. He is set to enroll at the University of Michigan this fall on a baseball scholarship, although he would forego college baseball were he to turn pro.
Bruin's sisters, Aleia and Ailana, recently completed their respective collegiate softball seasons. Aleia hit .311 with five home runs for BYU, while Ailana won the 2025 Rawlings Gold Glove at second base for Oklahoma. At the plate, she hit .314 with 49 hits, including four home runs and 35 runs batted in.
The only other player with Hawai‘i ties who accepted an invitation to the 2025 MLB Combine was Oklahoma State junior pitcher Harrison Bodendorf, who spent the first two seasons of his collegiate career at the University of Hawai‘i.
