Offering a contemporary Korean barbecue experience, Onkee Korean Grill House is coming up on its one-year anniversary (it opened last fall in Kōʻula). The eatery recently revamped its grill sets to include more dishes at a lower price point.

Combos A ($95) and B ($180) are available during both lunch and dinner; previously grill sets were only available at dinner.
Combo A includes banchan, rib-eye, thin skirt steak and a new brisket sauce created by chef Jwi Ho Jang. Customers also get a choice of kimchi or soybean stew.
Meanwhile, Combo B ($180) includes banchan, tenderloin, rib-eye, washugyu short rib and brisket, along with your choice of kimchi or soybean stew. I highly recommend using the house smoky salt (available at each table) to enhance the meat’s savory flavor.

Pork belly lovers will be elated that bossam ($48) was recently added to the menu. This traditional Korean dish features thinly sliced pork served with kimchi, lettuce wraps, ssamjang (a spicy soybean paste), salted shrimp and other condiments. This dish is designed to be interactive, as you create your own lettuce wrap with the desired amount of meat and toppings. The pork belly itself is flavorful, and one order contains a generous serving.

The second new dish is my personal favorite — marinated fried chicken ($28). These crunchy chicken morsels are served with the eatery’s special sweet sauce and a creamy aioli drizzle. The chicken is juicy and tender on the inside, and the creamy aioli makes this a must-have dish for sharing.
