Friday, June 27
Maoli performs in Honolulu. Maoli, a band that mixes island reggae with country soul, is taking its international tour of “Last Sip of Summer” to Neal S. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu on Friday, June 27, and Saturday, June 28. The tour will continue on to Tumon, Guam, and then Los Angeles. Future stops include Nevada, Oregon, Washington, as well as Canada and French Polynesia. Tickets are $72 - $380.
“American Idol” contestant Thunderstorm Artis returns to Oʻahu. The singer-songwriter with North Shore roots recently competed in “American Idol: Season 23,” where he was one of the top five contestants. Now based in Nashville, Tennessee, he is returning to Oʻahu for shows at 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday, June 27, at the Blue Note Hawaiʻi. Tickets are $45 - $55.
Movies. The Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival celebrates LGBTQIA+ stories and filmmakers. This weekend, 12 films will be coming to Doris Duke Theatre at the Honolulu Museum of Art on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Check the schedule and watch trailers here. All-access passes are $30 for students and $55 for kupuna. VIP all-access passes are $100. Individual screenings are $15. Get tickets.
Saturday, June 28
Kāneʻohe Night Market. Across from Windward Mall, this event includes more than 100 local vendors, hula, drinks and music. The featured entertainers include the Na Hoku Hanohano award winning artists Kalaʻe + Kalena Parish, Chardonnay and Kaʻimi Hananoʻeau. Free. VIP access is $8. Get tickets.
Lei making workshop. Families are invited to gather plumerias and learn the art of lei making in Waimānalo. This workshop is for keiki between 5 and 18 years old. Free for military-connected youth and families. First priority is given to keiki connected to the Air Force, Air Guard and Space Force, with additional youth connected to other military branches accepted after that. The even starts at 9 a.m. Free. Sign up.
Books for keiki. David Del Rocco, a retired Punahou School teacher, will be signing books for keiki at Lutheran Church of Honolulu at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 28. The first three books of his Wayfinder series feature Patsy Mink, Mary Kawena Pukui and Eddie Aikau. Books will be available for purchase on site for $10. Light refreshments are also available.
Sunday, June 29
A knife festival: This unique festival, hosted by Seisuki Knife, combines fire, iron, steel and carbon — plus food — at Deck, a restaurant which has sweeping views of Diamond Head from the third floor Queen Kapiʻolani Hotel Waikīkī Beach. The event features a sushi demonstration by chefs Yoshiki Hatano of Sushi Tonari and Angie Lee of Tsuki Maki. The festival will include a knife forging fire demonstration, music by Liam Moleta and performances by Hawaiʻi Hula Company. Tickets are $90.
