The Sunrise Shack — recognized for its signature yellow shack and health-conscious menu — just opened its newest location on Kapahulu Avenue, steps away from Leonard’s Bakery (it’s in the former Kono’s North Shore, which relocated to Kaimukī). There’s a counter within the shack, but this location is more conducive for takeout.
The Sunrise Shack, which originated in 2016 on Oʻahu’s North Shore, now has locations in Waikīkī, Haleʻiwa, Kailua and Honolulu. We were told the menu is the same across all stores — the business offers coffees, bullet coffees, specialty toasts, sandwiches, smoothies and smoothie bowls.

The acai ($12.95), Monkey ($14.65) and Blue Dream ($15.65) are the business’s most popular bowls. The acai bowl features a base made with acai, bananas, dates and honey, and is topped with bananas, pitaya sauce, granola, coconut flakes and honey.

The Monkey bowl ($14.65), meanwhile, is a local favorite that features a base with bananas, peanut butter, coconut milk, almond milk, cinnamon and dates. It’s topped with bananas, cacao nibs, peanut butter, granola and coconut flakes. It has a strong, nutty flavor that’s sure to satisfy any peanut butter fanatic.
The vibrant Blue Dream bowl ($15.65) is memorable because of its color. It’s made with Blue Majik spirulina, mango, banana, coconut milk, almond milk and dates, and is topped with strawberries, blueberries, granola and coconut flakes.

If you want something heartier, opt for one of the eatery’s specialty toasts or sandwiches. Choose from avocado ($12.95), smoked salmon ($15.95) or berry toasts ($14.65), or go for sandwiches like turkey avo aioli ($16.95), veggies vibes ($15.95) or fresh pesto chicken ($16.95). We especially loved the smoked salmon toast, comprising salmon carpaccio, dill, feta aioli, capers, cucumbers and red onions.
