Wahiawa burger spot’s July specials are fire

Starting July 4, Da Burger Wing Hub is offering a cheesy skillet and flaming volcanic burgers — along with one that’s served with bone marrow.

Every first Friday of the month, Wahiawa-based Da Burger Wing Hub starts its monthly specials. Specials usually comprise four limited-time dishes, and July’s dishes pack some heat — in more ways than one.

Volcanic burger

The Volcanic burger ($25) is one of the most visual specials. It features an 8-ounce patty with bordelaise sauce, bacon and a tomato, and is crowned with a deep-fried jalapeño. A sweet rum sauce is added to achieve the flaming presentation. The eatery debuted this special last December, and it’s back by popular demand.

The cheesy skillet burger ($28) is stacked with pulled pork, lettuce and onion rings atop a patty. A skillet of pepperjack and provolone cheese is torched tableside and drizzled over the entire burger. It’s like a melted cheese blanket that’s every bit as gooey and delicious as it sounds. It has a slow-building heat from the pepperjack cheese, and the shredded pork is one of the dish’s highlights.

bone marrow burger

The chimichurri burger with bone marrow ($32) features an 8-ounce patty with homemade pico de gallo, onion rings and bacon. It’s served with chimichurri sauce and bone marrow on the side. It’s impressive and a little daunting to eat, but restaurant owner Arjay Mijares says it gives guests “the best of both worlds,” as they can scrape some of the bone marrow onto the burger, or just eat it separately.

pasta with pork belly

The pasta cooked in an imported cheese wheel ($24) is one of my favorite specials. The giant Parmesan cheese wheel is imported from Italy, according to Mijares, and is wheeled out for the tableside presentation. The pasta includes fried pork belly and a medley of pepperjack, provolone and Parmesan cheeses. It’s even topped with Parmesan shards on top — ideal for the ultimate cheese fanatic. It’s creamy and luxe, with lots of meaty pork belly chunks throughout.

side room for special events

Da Burger Wing Hub also now features an expanded restaurant space. The eatery’s side room (to the left of the restaurant) is designed for special events, but will also serve as overflow seating when the eatery’s main dining area is full.
