The 2025 MLB Draft concluded on Monday afternoon, with a handful of names with Hawai‘i ties getting selected over the course of 20 rounds from Sunday to Monday.
In Sunday's first round, Saint Louis alumnus and Oregon State shortstop Aiva Arquette was taken seventh overall by the Miami Marlins. The signing bonus slot value for his pick is listed at $7,149,900.
Also on Sunday, Baldwin alumnus and Arkansas shortstop Wehiwa Aloy was taken 31st overall by the Baltimore Orioles in the free agent compensatory round. His pick was valued at $3,042,800.
The draft concluded with rounds 4-20 on Monday and involved multiple ballplayers from the Islands seeing their names called.
Recent Saint Louis graduate and consensus state prep player of the year Bruin Agbayani was selected in the sixth round by the Minnesota Twins with the 179th overall selection. His pick comes with a slot value of $361,600, and he is expected to turn professional immediately, forgoing his commitment to play collegiate baseball at the University of Michigan.
In the very next pick, University of Hawai‘i junior outfielder Matthew Miura was taken by the St. Louis Cardinals. Although Miura's pick carries a slot value of $358,700, he is expected to sign for an amount lower than that.
In the 10th round, former University of Hawai‘i pitcher Harrison Bodendorf was selected in the 10th round by the Cleveland Guardians. Bodendorf, like Miura, entered the UH baseball program as a walk-on before eventually earning a scholarship. Bodendorf transferred to Oklahoma State following the 2024 season.
King Kekaulike alumnus and Salt Lake Community College pitcher Jaxon Grossman was picked in the 16th round by the Texas Rangers. Grossman was committed to play Division I baseball at the University of Oklahoma and would forgo the rest of his college career were he to sign with the Rangers.
University of Hawai‘i two-way player Itsuki Takemoto was selected in the 19th round by The Athletics, while UH pitcher Freddy Rodriguez was taken in the 20th and final round by the Chicago Cubs. All picks from rounds 11-20 carry a slot value of $150,000.
Following the draft, UH pitcher Cory Ronan signed with the Kansas City Royals as an undrafted free agent.
