Everyone’s looking to save money and get the most bang for their buck. This series will show you where you can save while still savoring a good meal.

A $10 ramen bowl is almost unheard of — especially in Waikīkī.

Located on Lewers Street, Camado Ramen Izakaya recently launched a new happy hour menu. Available every day from 5 to 6 p.m., the happy hour’s most popular deal is its $10 shoyu ramen.

The shoyu ramen is one of the eatery’s simplest bowls. However, sometimes simple is best — and you can’t beat the price.

The tonkotsu ramen ($12 happy hour, regular $18) is one of my favorites. The rich, creamy tonkotsu broth comes with tender pork, and it’s the eatery’s most popular dish.

If you want extra toppings like a local egg ($2), green onions ($1.50) and garlic chips ($1.50), those are still available for an additional cost.

Want something other than noodles? Check out the eatery’s selection of mini donburi ($7 each). Choose from pork cha-siu, beef sukiyaki, salmon and Japanese curry rice; we’re told pork cha-siu and beef sukiyaki are the most popular options. In fact, the beef sukiyaki bowl is also available as a full-size option ($9.80).

We especially enjoyed the Japanese curry rice, which was both comforting and flavorful.

While they’re not mentioned on the eatery’s happy hour flyer, Camado Ramen Izakaya offers other discounted dishes on its regular menu. Look for the prices in red to see the happy hour discounts.

The eatery’s housemade pork gyoza (five pieces for $6.80 during happy hour) is one of the most popular pūpū. The pork dumplings are slightly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.

The chicken karaage is one of my favorite dishes at this restaurant. The succulent pieces of chicken are always crisp on the outside and full of flavor. You can choose from mayo or yuzu aioli for dipping; if you want something unique, go for the latter.

happy hour drinks

Happy hour drink specials include bottles of Kirin Light ($3) and Kirin Ichiban draft beers ($3.90, along with $5 house red or white wines by the glass, and $6 glasses of sparkling wine.
