Everyone’s looking to save money and get the most bang for their buck. This series will show you where you can save while still savoring a good meal.
We recently went to ONKEE Korean Grill House to check out the eatery’s happy hour menu, which is available daily from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the bar.
The contemporary Korean barbecue spot just unlocked a new deal, though — and this one’s available every day in the main dining room.
The eatery’s new $38 prix fixe menu is available daily from 4:30 to 5 p.m. in the main dining room. The new prix fixe is designed to offer some of the eatery’s most popular dishes at a more affordable price point. So, if you’ve ever been curious to try ONKEE, this is a good way to do so (without breaking the bank).
The menu features your choice of two appetizers, one main entrée, and a dessert. The appetizer portions are modified since you get to choose two. Options include truffle tuna poke, fried chicken with green onion salad, marinated fried chicken, japchae, beef tartare, bossam, LA short ribs, spicy stir-fried squid and grilled fish.
In addition, you’ll still receive the eatery’s featured banchan selection.

Of the available appetizers, my favorites include the kalbi, truffle tuna poke, and marinated fried chicken. The kalbi portion is substantial — and if you want to get the most bang for your buck, you can order two of these as your appetizer choices.
If you love truffle, give the poke a try — the truffle flavor is distinct — and the marinated fried chicken never disappoints. It features a balanced sweet-and-savory flavor with a creamy aioli drizzle. Each piece boasts a crispy interior and juicy interior with a slight spice.

Saba was the featured grilled fish during our visit. The bossam has been another customer favorite, due to the ultra-tender pork belly.

Entrée choices include kimchi stew, soybean paste stew, mul-naengmyeon and bibim-naengmyeon. The soybean paste stew features an enjoyable miso flavor. The mul-naengmyeon — a Korean cold noodle soup that features a chilled broth and thin noodles — especially hit the spot. It’s a refreshing option that's sure to beat the hot summer days.
Bibim-naengmyeon is a similar dish — just spicier.

The meal concludes with your choice of chocolate or vanilla ice cream. Even though the dessert is ice cream, it’s not an overly sweet version — and it provides the perfect respite, especially if you chose to eat something spicy.

As an added bonus, your dining group can take advantage of happy hour prices for cocktails and draft beers when you all order the prix fixe. That translates to $9 cocktails and $5 draft beers, which are a deal, considering you’re in Kakaʻako.
