If you’re looking for an affordable lunch spot that’s conducive to takeout, the Chinatown Cultural Plaza has a new option.

Fruisea opened in early July and, as its name implies, offers a variety of fruit teas and sushi rolls. Its name is a play on the combination of “fruits of the sea” and “fruit teas.”

While the café has limited dine-in seating, it’s more conducive to takeout.

The menu includes everything from maki sushi and nigiri to sushi rolls, donburi and noodles. Hoso maki starts from $2.99; nigiri starts from $3.50 (for two pieces) and sushi rolls start from $7.75.

The most popular sushi rolls include the royal roll ($13.90), volcano wave roll ($14.50) and tsunami crunchy roll ($14.90). They’re all similar, but we especially enjoy the royal roll, which comes with salmon and imitation crab.

The rainbow roll ($12.50) — comprising ‘ahi, shrimp and salmon over a California roll — is another popular option. It’s an especially good deal, considering the price.

The ocean lover set ($15.99) is one of my favorites because it includes a little bit of everything. ‘Ahi and salmon nigiri are my go-tos, but this set even includes ikura and unagi.

Donburi options include spicy ‘ahi ($12.99), salmon ikura ($15.50), salmon poke ($13.50), chirashi ($15.99) and spicy ‘ahi poke ($14.50). The chirashi bowl includes ‘ahi, ika, shrimp, unagi and ikura.

If you prefer cooked seafood, choose from the shrimp tempura bowl ($9.50), unagi kabayaki bowl ($14.99) and hamachi kama bowl ($15.50).

Drinks range from strawberry lemonade ($4.25) and matcha lattes ($5.50) to passion fruit sparkling lemonade (a secret menu item) and strawberry matcha lattes ($5.50). The latter is especially popular — not only is it photogenic, but it also offers a nice balance between the two flavors.

Fruisea also offers sushi party platters starting from $42.99. Choose from the classic sushi set ($42.99), deluxe platter ($52.99), combo platter ($54.99) or nigiri platter ($62.99).
