UPDATE 2:59 p.m.: Evacuation orders have been lifted and public roads are open at this time following a fire in Kā‘anapali, Maui Emergency Management Agency said just before 3 p.m. Monday.
"Please proceed with caution when returning to the area as emergency officials continue to work," the latest alert noted. "Smoke impacts may be lingering."
UPDATE 2:33 p.m.: An estimated 90-acre fire near Kā‘anapali that prompted evacuation orders for some areas on Monday was "knocked down" as of 2:08 p.m., according to the most recent update from the Maui Emergency Management Agency, citing the Maui Fire Department.
"Knocked down means that progress has stopped," the update, published at 2:33 p.m., noted. "Fire intensity has been significantly reduced and forward progress of the flames has been halted, but the fire is still smoldering and require further containment efforts."
Previously issued evacuation orders, warnings and advisories due to smoke and proximity to the fire remain in effect, MEMA said. Specific zone locations can be found here.
According to a MEMA announcement just before 1 p.m., a fire mauka of Honoapi‘ilani Highway near the old Sugar Cane Train warehouse closed both lanes of Honoapiʻilani Highway between Puʻukoliʻi Road and Lower Honoapiʻilani Highway (the lower road) around 12:22 p.m. due to firefighting efforts.
Kā‘anapali Golf Estates and Old Stuart Road (cane haul road) were opened for public use.
MEMA says motorists should avoid the area.
