You’ll soon be able to take a tour of more than 10 custom-built homes in Kukui‘ula, a 1,010-acre residential and resort community in Po‘ipū — and support a local nonprofit working to feed families across Kaua‘i at the same time.

The Festive Parade of Homes is set for 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18. During this time, guests can explore a “curated selection of homes currently available on the market while enjoying sweet and savory bites from local favorites like Little Luna Ice Cream Truck, Fika Coffee Cart, Kaua‘i Petite Sweets and more,” the 

A Kukui‘ula spokesperson told Aloha State Daily in an email that the community has hosted the Parade of Homes since 2023, “welcoming guests each summer and winter to explore a range of available homes.”

“Alongside home tours, attendees enjoy delicious treats while supporting an island nonprofit,” they said. “Open to Realtors, prospective buyers, members, lodge guests and our broader island community, the event provides a warm, friendly opportunity for everyone to experience Kukui‘ulua.”

There’s no cost to participate, but donations collected from the Dec. 18 event will benefit and support the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank. The organization 

, which hit the Garden Isle on Sept. 11, 1992.

For every $25 contributed, donors will receive an entry into an early bird and Festive Parade of Homes giveaway, which includes 

, like a two-night stay at The Lodge at Kukui‘ula, a round of golf and lunch for four, spa treatments and more, the spokesperson noted. The early bird giveaway entries close on Dec. 10, but all entries must be received by Dec. 31. Winners will be selected by Jan. 7, 2026, the site states.

Non-perishable items will also be accepted during the Festive Parade of Homes on Dec. 18.

“Support for nonprofits like Kaua‘i Independent Foodbank, which make a meaningful difference in our local community, is needed year-round, but especially during the holidays,” the spokesperson noted. “The Parade of Homes tradition offers an easy way to give back while enjoying festive activities during the summer and holiday seasons.”

All four of Hawai‘i's federal delegates are urging the U.S. Department of Defense to investigate a U.S. Army doctor accused of exploiting potentially thousands of patients.

In November, obstetrician-gynecologist (OBGYN) Major Blaine D. McGraw was named in a 

 filed in a Texas district court by a former patient — unnamed in the suit — who accused him of unknowingly recording her during a medical examination at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in Fort Hood, Tex.

According to the lawsuit, the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division had found in October a series of photographs on McGraw’s phone depicting multiple female patients during their examinations, with McGraw having seemingly recorded his examinations surreptitiously.

Furthermore, the lawsuit alleged that sexual misconduct allegations had followed McGraw for years before he began working at Fort Hood: at Tripler Army Medical Center, where he worked between 2019 and 2023.

With the Army reaching out to McGraw’s former patients, Texas outlets report that more than 100 plaintiffs have joined the case against McGraw, including multiple Tripler patients.

The lawsuit claims that at least one female patient at Tripler had filed a complaint against McGraw, claiming that he had recorded a pelvic examination without her consent. However, the lawsuit goes on to claim that “rather than investigate or remove him from patient care, McGraw’s chain of command dismissed the complaint, laughed it off and allowed him to continue practicing medicine.”

Other accusations within the lawsuit allege that McGraw had repeatedly made inappropriate, sexual comments to his female patients, and one point heavily implied he had unnecessarily undressed a patient while she was sedated.

On Tuesday, all of Hawai‘i's federal lawmakers — Reps. Jill Tokuda and Ed Case, and Senators Mazie Hirono and Brian Schatz — published a 

 to the Department of Defense calling for a full investigation into McGraw’s actions and how he was allowed to persist for so long.

“The damage done by Major McGraw’s alleged actions is irreversible,” the letter read in part. “The Department owes these victims accountability for its failure to stop this misconduct, including a comprehensive investigation and, where supported by the evidence, prosecution of Major McGraw under the Uniform Code of Military Justice to the fullest extent allowed.”

The letter calls for a joint briefing between the DoD, Department of the Army and the Defense Health Agency in six months to report on the “systemic failures that contributed to the alleged conduct.”

Meanwhile, the suit itself continues apace, with further hearings scheduled for later this month.

A lawsuit against a quartet of Honolulu police officers over a late-night apartment search may go to trial.

Anthony Bellamy was sleeping in his apartment in the early morning of May 8, 2020 when he was awakened by a knock on the door. Behind the door were a quartet of armed police officers.

The officers had been called in by Bellamy’s upstairs neighbor, who had reported in a 911 call, and then to the officers directly, that she had heard a noise like a gunshot, and the smell of gunpowder, somewhere beneath her.

The police interaction with Bellamy was brief. Body camera footage indicated that officers knocked on Bellamy’s door at about 3:35 a.m. and the team departed shortly after 3:36 a.m. No gun was ever found, and the officers speculated among themselves that the caller may have only heard a car backfiring.

But Bellamy would sue the City and County of Honolulu, as well as the four police officers — Nickolas Hirata, Dylan Torres, Byron Marfil and Diana Miranda — over what he characterized a disturbing and threatening situation.

Bellamy claimed in his lawsuit that, when he opened his apartment door, Hirata had an AR-15 rifle “pointed right at” him.

"At least two officers told me to put my hands up,” Bellamy stated in the suit. “I put one of my hands up and the officers demanded I put both hands up. I had to open the door to show both my hands. The officers kept asking me 'where's the guns, where's the guns'.”

Bellamy, a Black man who was in his 60s at the time of the incident, said he felt threatened by the officers into letting them into his apartment, despite the officers’ lack of a warrant. His suit also noted that, during the police interaction, his neighbor, an Asian American woman, emerged from her apartment to ask what was going on, but police did not question her or ask to search her apartment.

However, HPD provided to the First Circuit Court recordings of the initial 911 call and bodycam recordings from all four of the officers. According to a court summary of the footage, Hirata never raised his rifle above the “low ready” position — with the barrel pointed at the ground — nor raised his voice. The officers only entered the apartment after Bellamy told them “you can come check everything in here,” and Hirata apologized for the disturbance after a quick search.

Bellamy’s suit alleged that the officers had threatened assault, invaded his privacy and intentionally inflicted emotional distress, and called for punitive damages against the City.

The fact that the camera footage seems to directly contradict Bellamy’s testimony led the First Circuit Court to issue a summary judgment in favor of the City and the officers. But the state Intermediate Court of Appeals 

The ICA ruling found that Bellamy’s version of events — in which a rifle was pointed at him, officers shouted at him and he did not consent to a search of his apartment — need not be corroborated by other evidence in order to be admissible in court as an affidavit.

“The jury must decide which version of events it believes; it is not for a judge, on a motion for summary judgment, to weigh competing evidence and determine which version of events should be accepted as true,” read the ICA opinion by presiding judge Keith Hiroaka.

Part of reason for this verdict comes from the lingering impacts of the encounter Bellamy claims to have experienced: he said he has suffered from anxiety, PTSD and paranoia since the incident. Because of this, even if the bodycam footage shows no indication of actually threatening behavior, Hiroaka wrote that Bellamy’s affidavit still raised questions of HPD’s potential liability for emotional damages.

Despite this, the ICA opinion did not reverse the Circuit Court’s dismissal of Bellamy’s claim for punitive damages against the City and County.

With the ICA’s opinion, the case is remanded back to the Circuit Court for further proceedings, which have not yet been scheduled.

HPD confirmed to Aloha State Daily that all four officers remain with the department.
