The University of Hawai‘i football team was routed 40-6 at Arizona on Saturday, dropping to 1-1 for the 2025 season.
Arizona pulled away in the second half, turning a competitive first half into a rout. The Wildcats outscored the Rainbow Warriors 23-0 in the second half to earn a season-opening rout.
Hawai‘i quarterback Micah Alejado, who played hobbled in the second half of the team's season-opening victory over Stanford, was deemed ready to play and got the start at quarterback, going 18-for-31 with 157 yards and an interception, the first of his college career. In the third quarter, with the 'Bows down 31-6, he continued to stay in the game and fell on his right ankle after a play, hopping back to the UH sideline on his right foot.
Luke Weaver played the rest of the way at quarterback behind center for the Rainbow Warriors, going 8-for-16 with two interceptions.
Kicker Kansei Matsuzawa did all the scoring for the Rainbow Warriors, making both of his field goal attempts, his final one a 41-yarder as the first half clock expired.
Defensively, Dalton Johnson had a game-high 10 tackles for Arizona, which forced five Hawai‘i turnovers.
Next up for Hawai‘i is a home contest against Sam Houston on Sept. 6. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex.
