Hideout Waikīkī at The Laylow recently revamped its happy hour menu. Customers can now take advantage of deals on dishes and drinks from 1 to 5 p.m. daily.

While the dishes featured on the happy hour aren’t entirely new to the restaurant, they are new to the happy hour discounts.

The Mai Tai Burger and Mai Tai combo ($30) are one of the most popular selections on the happy hour menu because it includes one of the eatery’s signature drinks.

The burger itself is meaty and flavorful, consisting of a wagyu beef patty, American cheese and house sauce, with fries on the side.

Meanwhile, the Laylow “Hawaiian Style” Mai Tai ($9 a la carte) features Mahina silver and dark rum, dry curacao, lime, orgeat, pineapple and lilikoʻi.

Of the various happy hour dishes, the HFC ($12) — like KFC but Hideout’s version — was one of my favorites. The crispy karaage-style fried chicken was sprinkled with togarashi and served with lemon and furikake buttermilk.

The chicken boasts a crispy exterior and juicy interior, and when paired with the creamy buttermilk dipping sauce, was absolutely addictive.

If you enjoy crispy brussels sprouts, you’ll love this version, which is served with crispy pork belly, a sweet soy glaze and macadamia nuts. The delicate brussels sprouts are ultra crispy, with a lingering sweetness from the glaze and nice crunch from the mac nuts.

wonton poke tacos

If you’re looking for a lighter appetizer, the wonton poke tacos ($17) should do the trick. One order includes three petite tacos — served in a crispy wonton shell — and filled with ‘ahi poke, avocado and yuzu. The mango salsa is served on the side, in case you prefer the tacos without the fruity component.

shrimp dumplings

These plump, juicy dumplings come swimming in yuzu chili butter and sweet chili. The shrimp morsels are nice and meaty, but the spice definitely kicks in after a few bites.

Fries are a happy hour staple — you can never have too much of them. While the fries that come with the Mai Tai burger are nicely seasoned, the truffle garlic version is next level.
