The Construction Industry of Maui recently gathered golfers for a good cause, raising nearly $65,000 during its third annual golf tournament for construction trade programs in Maui County high schools.
Some 144 golfers, students, their teachers, and volunteers attended the Sept. 27 tourney, which was held at The Dunes at Maui Lani Golf Course, CIM said in an announcement Tuesday. Pace Supply Corp. was the title sponsor.
CIM is a trade council of the Maui Chamber of Commerce operating as an independent association under the chamber's umbrella. Its mission is to "develop and support the skilled workforce essential to Maui’s construction industry," the announcement noted.
Part of that effort is to inspire and guide local students toward careers in this field, CIM says, and a portion of the funding raised will be directed back to high school vocational construction programs throughout the county.
Earlier this year, CIM awarded tens of thousands of dollars in grants to Maui County high schools to support these vocational programs and also awarded three $25,000 scholarships to Maui students as part of an annual scholarship program.
Maui County high schools will be invited to apply for funding again through a formal application set to be announced on the CIM website, alongside notifications from the state Department of Education, next March, the announcement notes.
“We are thrilled by the outstanding participation in this year’s tournament,” said CIM Secretary Kevin Keller said in the announcement. “Every team and sponsor do more than enjoy a day of golf — they play a crucial role in shaping the next generation of skilled construction professionals. Funds raised directly support high school programs that introduce students to careers in the construction trades, helping to build a strong, sustainable workforce for our community’s future.”
Keller says, too, that planning for the fourth annual CIM tournament — set to be held in September 2026 — is already underway.
