Aloha State Daily rounded up some of the spooky and fun activities happening on Oʻahu this month. From a surf costume contest to a haunted mansion there are lots of ways to celebrate autumn.

Tuesday, Oct. 7

Drink the witch’s cauldron. Aloha Mamacita has a new spooky bar. Buy a drink or dessert and get another free in a deal that runs through Oct. 12. The buy one, get one deal allows customers to mix and match drinks and desserts. For drinks, enjoy the vampire’s kiss ($16), witch’s blood or pumpkin pie margarita ($16), eyeball Jell-O shots (three for $9), or a shareable witch’s brew served in a 64-ounce cauldron ($35). There are also pumpkin matcha drinks, which are not listed on the menu but are available by request.

 Friday, Oct. 17

Autumn scavenger hunt. Kūpuna are invited to take part in a leisurely stroll from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. where they can pick up clues and complete an autumn-themed scavenger hunt at Pearlridge Center. The event takes place in Wai Makai and is intended for seniors age 55 and older, but all are welcome. Details.

Saturday, Oct. 18

Ghost stories. Lopaka Kapanui will share ghost stories, accompanied by the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra, as part of a one-night-only performance called “Hapa Halloween: Mysteries of Hawaiʻi in Concert,” at Hawaiʻi Theatre. Kapanui and his wife, Tanya, started the ghost tour company, Mysteries of Hawaiʻi, which offers tours of neighborhoods, as well as programming for schools and corporate events. The duo also writes a weekly column of ghost stories for Aloha State Daily. Attendees can also arrive an hour before the concert for a costume contest and trick of treating. Get tickets.

Halloween seek and treat. Keiki can embark on a self-guided treasure hunt from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 18 through Oct. 31 at Kailua Town. On the treasure hunt, they will pick up stamps and treats from participating merchants. The adventure starts at the Lau Hala Shops entrance, which is located below the UFC Gym, where participants will find instructions and a treasure map. At the end of the quest, bring that treasure map to Oceans End in the Straub Building at 602 Kailua Road, Unit 103. The more stamps collected, the bigger the prize. Adults will also receive a complimentary gift from Oceans End while supplies last. Details.

Aloun Farms hosts Pumpkin Fall Festival. Aloun Farms will host its 23rd annual Pumpkin Fall Festival. Select pumpkins from the field, walk through sunflower fields and enjoy free tractor hayrides and activities for keiki. There are also carnival rides, ʻono foods and a farmers market. Tickets are $5. The event is pet friendly. Admission is free for keiki ages 2 years old and younger.

Friday, Oct. 24

Trunk or treat. Staff of the City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Parks and Recreation will host a Halloween event from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. where keiki can walk between cars in the parking lot of the Hoʻaeʻae Community Park and trick or treat. There will also be carnival games. The parking lot will be closed from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. that day. Free. Register.

Faboolous Frolic. Staff of the City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Parks and Recreation will host an event from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the George Fred Wright Wahiawā District Park. Keiki can wear costumes and trick or treat around the football field or visit booths from supporters, including the Honolulu Police Department. There will be games, a photobooth and activities. Free.

Spooktacular costume contest. Staff of the City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Parks and Recreation will host a costume contest for keiki who range in age from newborns to sixth graders. There will also be a family category. Contests include gift cards or gifts from Kāhala Mall merchants. The contestants should line up in the center court / theatre wing at 4:30 p.m. for the contest which starts at 5 p.m. at Center Court Stage.

Saturday, Oct. 25

Surfer costume contest. Jamie O’Brien Surf Experience will host a Halloween surf contest at The Ritz-Carlton Oʻahu, Turtle Bay. Surfers of all ages and levels are invited to paddle out in costume from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. There is a $20 entry fee, which benefits the Kahuku High School Surf Team. Sign up.

Pumpkin Palooza. Staff of the City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Parks and Recreation will host a Pumpkin Palooza from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Koko Head District Park. There will be games, arts and crafts, and hidden pumpkins. Goodie bags are available for keiki up to 12 years old. Keiki who complete the activities and mark them on a passport can enter a drawing for a special grand prize. Free. Space is limited to 200 participants. Register.

Sunday, Oct. 26

Costume contest. This contest runs from 2 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. at The Royal Grove at the Royal Hawaiian Center. There are multiple prize categories, including an ʻohana competition where parents and keiki can compete as a team. The first-place winner for each category gets a $150 gift card to the Royal Hawaiian Center. There are also prizes for second and third place in each category. The overall grand prize is a $250 gift card. Keiki from up to 10 years old can compete. Families are encouraged to preregister to secure spots in the contest. Details.

Trick or treat at Royal Hawaiian Center. Participating stores and restaurants will hand out candy and treats while supplies last from noon until 6 p.m. at the Royal Hawaiian Center. Keiki and their families are invited to dress up and trick or treat. Details.

Trick or treat at Kāhala Mall. Keiki and their families can participate in trick or treating from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Kāhala Mall.

Hallow-zoo. The Honolulu Zoo is also getting in on the Halloween fun. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., keiki can wear costumes and follow clues to collect stamps. The Haunted Habitat Treat Trail will feature 15 spots where keiki can trick or treat. Details.

 Thursday, Oct. 30

Candy crawl. Take the keiki trick or treating from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Pearlridge Center. There is a keiki costume contest. The entertainment and costume contest is hosted by PBS Hawaiʻi while Longs Drugs is the candy sponsor.

Friday, Oct. 31.

Haunted Mansion. Staff of the City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Parks and Recreation will host an inaugural haunted mansion from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the parking lot of the McCully District Park. There will be games, face painting and a haunted house suitable for all ages. There will also be opportunities to trick or treat in the parking lot. Limited parking is available at the King William C. Lunalilo Elementary School. The parking lot of the park will be closed as it is in use for the event. High visibility clothes and lights are encouraged for traffic safety.

Halloween party. Aloha Mamacita is partnering with The Row Kakaʻako to host a Halloween party from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. with live music, entertainment and themed drinks. There will also be a costume contest. Details.

Ala-Ween Spooktacular. Ala Moana Center will host trick or treating from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at more than 100 stores and restaurants. There will be live entertainment, balloons and photo opportunities. Keiki and their families are invited to dress up in costumes and collect candy. The event includes a dance party hosted by The Hawaiʻi DJ as well as custom balloon creations by Adventure Balloons. Dave and Boo’sters. Dave & Buster’s will host a Dave and Boo’sters party with crafts, games and awards for the best costume as part of its Halloween celebrations.

Underwater pumpkin carving. Watch aquarists carve pumpkins underwater at 10:30 a.m. at the ʻAlohilani Resort, Waikīkī Beach. Details.
