Catch live island and reggae music. Enjoy some Halloween fun at local haunted houses. Or watch movies that are having their world premieres at the only Academy Awards-qualifying film festival in the state. Aloha State Daily rounded up some ideas for weekend fun:
Holo Holo Music Festival. The Holo Holo Music Festival, which showcases island and reggae music in festivals across the Mainland, is coming back to its island roots with its first Holo Holo Music Festival on Oʻahu. The two-day music festival will take place at the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum on Saturday, Oct. 18 and Sunday, Oct. 19. On the first day, featured entertainers include J Boog, KatchaFire, Eli-Mac, Fia and Johnny Suite. The musical line-up on Sunday features The Green, Josh Tatofi, Collie Buddz, Ooklah The Moc, Paula Fuga and Kanaka Fyah. There will also be food trucks and vendors. Previous Holo Holo Music Festival events have taken place in California, Nevada and Washington, among other locations. Get tickets.
Scary Season. Ready to be scared? Aloha State Daily rounded up five options for haunted fun in Kakaʻako, Waipahu and more. Check out Trial of Fears inside what was formerly Buca di Beppo Italian Restaurant in Ward Village and the Haunted Plantation at the Hawaiʻi Plantation Village in Waipahu. The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Parks and Recreation will also host a free haunted mansion from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the parking lot of the McCully District Park in Honolulu. Details. Hawaiʻi International Film Festival. Watch more than 200 films, many of which will have their Hawaiʻi or worldwide premieres at the Hawaiʻi International Film Festival this month. The festival is the only Academy Awards-qualifying film festival in the state and includes events on Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi Island, Maui, Kauaʻi, Lānaʻi and Molokai. This year, the festival will also include the inaugural HIFILM Industry Conference, which runs Oct. 24- 26, and features panels, workshops and networking events focused on the state's film, television and creator industries.
