Ready for the weekend? Aloha State Daily rounded up some fun things to do with the ʻohana, including opportunities to eat delicious food and catch the premieres of several movies. There are also several slack key guitar events and the final concert at Aloha Stadium.

FRIDAY, Oct. 24

Movies! The Hawaiʻi International Film Festival is screening a number of films this week and next week, many of which are having their worldwide premieres in Hawaiʻi. The festival is the only Academy Awards-qualifying film festival in the state. This year, the inaugural HIFILM Industry Conference also runs Oct. 24- 26 and features panels, workshops and networking events for the state's film, television and creator industries. Details.

Filipino Food Week. This seventh annual event is part of celebrations for Filipino-American History Month. This year, particiating restaurants are showcasing food or drinks that fit its theme of: Kapampangan Recipes. Details.

Halloween fun. It is the season for all kinds of spooky fun! Check out Aloha State Daily’s guides for Halloween treats and pumpkin-flavored snacks, haunted experiences and general October fun. A few highlights this weekend include a costume contest for surfers hosted by Jamie O’Brien Surf Experience at The Ritz-Carlton Oʻahu, Turtle Bay, a pumpkin palooza at Koko Head District Park, and trick or treat experiences. Details.

“Slack Key Heaven.” Listen to newly discovered music from the late Dennis Kamakahi, a legendary Grammy-nominated musician, who died in 2014. A new album, “Slack Key Heaven” is releasing today and includes seven original compositions: “Koʻolau ‘Ui,” “Waipiʻi,” “He Mele No Pepe (Song For Baby),” “Twin Peaks,” “Maui Mountain Home,” “Mission Street Slack Key” and “Misty Rain.” Listen.

Slack Fridays. Slack key guitar virtuoso Makana is returning to Waikīkī for a series of events under the stars at ʻAlohilani Resort, Waikīkī Beach’s Swell Restaurant & Pool Bar. He is joined by Lono Kaumeheiwa (vocals and bass) and Lopaka Colón (percussion) as the three blend contemporary Hawaiian, bluegrass, rock, and Afro-Cuban rhythms. The pau hana series is being sponsored in part by Kuleana Rum. The first live concert in the series was Friday, Sept. 19. The concert is free. Self parking is validated with a minimum purchase. There will also be hula performances by Kaʻula Kamahele, Miss Aloha Hula 1980. Details.

Sushi. Kaiten Sushi Ginza Onodera is offering maguro nigiri for half off this weekend from Friday through Sunday. Customers can take advantage of deals like $3 akami (regular price $6), $4.50 chutoro (regular price $8.50), $6 otoro (regular price $12) and $6 mixed bluefin tuna hand roll (regular price $12). Details.

SATURDAY, OCT. 25

Aloha to Aloha Stadium. The stadium and TMR Events will host this a hui hou event “Aloha to Aloha Stadium,” which starts at 4 p.m. in ‘Aiea. Tickets are $10 per person, or $5 each if purchased in a group of six. The headliners include Henry Kapono & Friends, Ekolu, Hoʻonuʻa, as well as Brother Noland, Mānoa DNA, Tavana, Kimié Miner, Anuhea, Kanaka Fyah, The Mākaha Sons, and Hawaiian Style Band. Details.

Nick Kuchar opens shop in Waikīkī. Oʻahu-based artist Nick Kuchar opened a new shop inside the Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa, Waikīkī Beach. Guests can see a live heat press hat printing as part of a grand opening event held between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Details.

Magical Boo Bash. The Magical Boo Bash returns for two days of fun and features more than 70 vendors on the Event Lawn at Wai Kai. There are local businesses with magic-inspired items, as well as food trucks. The two-day event runs from 12 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $5 if purchased in advance or $8 at the door. Details.

 SUNDAY, OCT. 26

Watch Oʻahu Shores.  Eight friends star in Peackock’s new reality television series “Oʻahu Shores,” which premiered Oct. 9. The entire first season, which consists of six episodes, was released on the same day. The friends recently came together for a red carpet premiere at Dave & Buster’s on Sunday, Oct. 12. Kamalani Pico, who is one of the featured friends, recently spoke with Aloha State Daily about the series.  Details.
