You and your pup can get into the spirit of Halloween — and support animals on the Garden Isle — when the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort & Spa, in partnership with the Kaua‘i Humane Society, hosts a “Canine Costume Contest,” pet food drive and adoption event on Thursday, Oct 30.

Registration for the costume contest begins at 2:15 p.m. The contest itself will take place on the resort’s Kaua‘i Ballroom front lawn. Your pup can compete in categories that include cutest costume, scariest costume and best pet-and-owner themed costume.

A panel of judges will choose the winner in each category, with prizes for the dogs from Natural Pet Hawai‘i. Prizes for their humans include a $100 resort gift certificate.

All dogs must be healthy, fully vaccinated, well-mannered and leashed at all times, an announcement from the resort noted.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Kaua‘i Humane Society to bring some Halloween fun to our community while supporting such an important cause,” Diann Hartman, director of marketing communications at Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i said in the announcement. “This event is a wonderful way for guests, Kaua‘i residents, and their pets to come together, celebrate and help provide care and comfort to animals in need.”

The resort says that participants in the costume contest are encouraged to bring a donation of pet food for the humane society’s pet food bank, which offers a limited supply of pet food to those in need.

“Items from the shelter’s Amazon Wishlist are also encouraged, including scratching posts, toys, treats, leashes, industrial-sized fans, kuranda beds and airline-approved animal crates,” the announcement notes. Monetary donations to the nonprofit humane society can be made here.

The Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i team also is hosting an internal pet food drive through Oct. 30, with the items donated to KHS at the costume contest.

And if you’re looking to grow your fur family, KHS also will have several adoptable dogs at the event. On- and off-island adoptions are available. Find more information about the humane society here.

Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort & Spa, a 605-room, 50-acre resort overlooking Keoneloa Bay, is located at 1571 Po‘ipū Road in Kōloa.
