Kailua is filled with brunch options — Moke’s Bread & Breakfast, Boots & Kimos and Cinnamon’s Restaurant, to name a few — but this barbecue-inspired one is worth checking out.

Easy ‘Que — the sister restaurant of Over Easy Kailua, which is known for its breakfast fare — recently revamped its weekend brunch menu. Brunch is offered from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Brunch specials are more savory options, which include a brisket loco moco ($24), brisket patty eggs Benedict ($23), shrimp and grits ($22) and avocado toast ($16).
The brisket loco moco comes highly recommended. The brisket patty is topped with your choice of 7-minute or scrambled eggs with mushrooms, caramelized onions and brown gravy over rice, with mustard pickles on the side. We’re told it’s flavorful and a generous portion — and probably food-coma inducing — so it’s ideal for sharing if you’re brunching with a group.
If you love eggs bennies, the brisket patty eggs Benedict ($23) is a must-have. It features a brisket and potato patty topped with 7-minute eggs and Hollandaise over English muffins, served with a mixed greens salad.
The huge brisket patty is full of savory and smoky flavor, and if you finish the entire thing, a kanak attack is sure to follow.

This avocado toast ($16) is a deconstructed version. It features tomato and pesto with a 7-minute egg, with house focaccia on the side.
Most avocado toasts are sandwich-like and feature the bread as the base with the avocado on top. We’re told this deconstructed version allowed the chef to plate up the dish a little differently.
The eatery’s shrimp and grits ($22) also features an updated version. We’re told the previous iteration featured cornmeal-crusted shrimp that was fried. The shrimp now features a tempura-battered presentation — to represent a blend of Hawaiʻi-style and Southern flavors — and comes with creamy grits, Portuguese sausage, 7-minute eggs and Nashville hot aioli.

Brunch wouldn’t be complete without a boozy beverage — and Easy ‘Que has a slew of morning libations to choose from. Besides bourbon, whiskey and rye, the eatery has variety of cocktails.
Popular options include the Hard Wake Up Call ($13) — made with Four Roses bourbon, ChadLou’s espresso, brown sugar syrup, nutmeg and whipped cream — and the Kailua Sunrise ($13). The latter features gin and the eatery’s popular cold-pressed pineapple, orange and lime juice.
If you want something especially unique, opt for one of Easy ‘Que’s alcoholic slushies. Ask about the featured slushy of the day; you can even get a prosecco topped with a slushy flavor. While it might not be as photogenic as some of the cocktails, it’s still a fun option that’s perfect for brunch.
