The finale for HI93’s Local Break: Battle of the Bands and Comedians will take place this Friday, Nov. 21. The event includes five bands and five comedians battling for the top prize in each contest. The competition starts at 7 p.m. at The Gatsby Hawaiʻi in Kakaʻako.

The grand prize winners will take home $1,000 and studio time for bands or headliner opportunities for comedians, as well as on-air time on HI93 with The HI Guys, Steezy and Puʻunui.

So far, a dozen comedians performed in the first four rounds of competition. Now, five advance to the finale. The comedians, who each won one round of competition, include Joe Braskey, Jack Schwab, Ian Shippen and Josh Staples. The fifth contestant, Andrew Joyce, was a wild card chosen by public vote from second-place finishers to advance to the finals.

A dozen bands also performed over the past few weeks. From that group, five advance to the finale. The bands that each won a round of competition include Tehani, The Issentials, The Reppahz and Johnny the Third. The fifth contestant, Take One Music, was a wild card chosen by public vote from the second-place finishers.

The event is sponsored by Hele Gas, as well as Le Vanta Records, Maui Brewing Co. and Comedy U Hawaiʻi. Aloha State Daily is a media sponsor for this event. Tickets are $20 plus processing fees. Get tickets.
