After defending the belt against Dustin Poirier at UFC 318 in New Orleans on July 19, Holloway's next assignment will be Oliveira, the former UFC lightweight champion, who defeated Mateusz Gamrot via submission on October 11, 2025.

Holloway and Oliveira previously faced each other on Aug. 23, 2015. Holloway won via technical knockout in the first round.

While Holloway went on to win and defend the UFC featherweight (145 pounds) belt from 2016 to 2019 in the midst of a 13-fight winning streak, Oliveira reigned as the UFC lightweight (155 pounds) from 2021 to 2022, winning the lightweight title fight three times.

Holloway won the BMF belt by virtue of his knockout victory over Justin Gaethje at UFC 300 on April 13 before defending it against Poirier.

Oliveira, after his victory over Gamrot in October, called out Holloway following his victory and now gets his wish.
