While the University of Hawai‘i football team's season ended on Christmas Eve with a dramatic victory over California in the Hawai‘i Bowl, other teams on campus are ramping up.

Indoor sports at UH

The UH men's volleyball team will begin its 2026 campaign with a home series against the New Jersey Institute of Technology with matches at the Stan Sheriff Center on Friday and Sunday. First serve on Friday is set for 7 p.m., while Sunday's series finale begins at 5 p.m.

Meanwhile, both UH basketball teams will begin Big West Conference play on Thursday. It will be the final time for each program to take on the Big West slate before joining football in the Mountain West Conference in July 2026.

The Rainbow Wahine basketball team will host UC Riverside on Thursday at 7 p.m. and UC San Diego on Saturday, also at 7 p.m. The Hawai‘i men's basketball teams will play those programs on the same days, but on the road.

PacWest play

Meanwhile, in local PacWest Conference action, both Hawai‘i Pacific basketball teams will be on the road this weekend, taking on Fresno Pacific on Saturday and Jessup next Monday. Hawai‘i-Hilo's teams are playing the same teams in reverse order, playing Jessup on Saturday and Hawai‘i-Hilo on Jan. 5.

At Chaminade, all teams are idle until Jan. 13.

High school sports during winter break

While high schools across the state are on winter break, some teams have taken the opportunity to play in tournaments on the Mainland. As of Monday, Kamehameha's girl's basketball team was in the semifinals of the West Coast Jamboree Platinum Division in California.
