Hawaiʻi Film Alliance hosts legislative briefing

Ahead of the opening of the 2026 legislative session, the Hawai'i Film Alliance is hosting a group of speakers to share classroom-style briefings designed to help industry professionals understand key issues.

The Hawaiʻi Film Alliance is partnering with the Academy for Creative Media at the University of Hawaiʻi – West Oʻahu and the International Cultural Arts Network to present session two of its four-part Hawaiʻi Film Allianace Info Series, which are classroom-style briefings designed to help industry professionals understand key legislation in the 2026 legislative session.

The event will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10. The session will explore upcoming bills and how they might impact the state’s film industry. As part of the event, attendees will also get a tour of the Academy for Creative Media.

Featured speakers include:

  • John Salanoa – Actor/Writer/Director
  • Brian Keaulana – Producer
  • Daniel Hamilton-Lowe – Production Manager/Producer
  • Ric Galindez – Producer & Attorney, Island Film Group
  • Kiran Polk – Executive Director & CEO, Kapolei Chamber of Commerce

Hawaiʻi Film Alliance launched in July and is a coalition of film professionals, production companies, labor unions, businesses, and more, that are connected to the film industry. The group's founding members include Angie Laprete and Brian Keaulana, who were producers for “Chief of War.”

Registration is required. Food is provided but alcohol is not permitted.
