The café offers a variety of French toasts, pancakes, omelets, eggs Benedicts and other specialty dishes.

Besides the peanut butter French toast ($16) and pancake trio ($22), other customer favorites include the shrimp and bacon omelet ($25), prosciutto egg toast ($21) and Oh-Love French toast ($22). The latter features two pieces of Big Island sweet bread topped with fresh strawberries, mascarpone, espresso, choco shavings and cocoa powder, with whipped cream on the side.

The café also added new birria dishes to its permanent menu. Customers can choose from the holy cow Benedict ($25), birria bowl ($23) and birria burrito ($19).

“They (the birria dishes) were only holiday specials (previously),” explains Kevin Young, owner of Egghead Café. “It was very popular; people liked it and asked, ‘Can you continue to serve this?’ We thought, ‘OK, why not?’

“The cornbread is house-baked,” he adds, referring to the holy cow Benedict. The twist on eggs benny features warm cornbread stacked with tender birria beef, soft poached eggs, hollandaise and a drizzle of hot honey sauce. It’s rich and saucy, with some spice from both, the hot honey and birria meat itself.

The bowl features rice topped with birria beef, avocado corn, tangy pickled veggies and a fried egg. It’s finished with fresh cilantro, hot honey drizzle and a lime on the side.

The café’s birria burrito is only available during weekdays. It consists of slow-braised birria beef with fluffy eggs, green onions, creamy avocado corn, pepper jack cheese, caramelized onions and tomato all wrapped together. It’s served with birria drip sauce — made form the braised beef — along with hot honey sauce.
