Friday, April 10

Watch Merrie Monarch. The Merrie Monarch Festival returns this year with hula competitions from Thursday, April 9, through Saturday, April 11, at the Edith Kanakaʻole Multi-Purpose Stadium in Hilo. Tickets to see the festival in person this year are sold out, but you can watch the live stream from Hawaiʻi News Now here. It will be broadcasted in ‘Ōlelo Hawaiʻi and English. Activities and events for the weeklong festival also include an invitational Hawaiian arts fair, along with hula shows and a grand parade. Details.

Stuck in the rain? Check out these movies! A third Kona Low storm is headed for Hawaiʻi. Assuming the power stays on, here are nine films featuring local actors and ties to the Islands. Been wanting to binge watch a series? Try “Chief of War” starring Jason Momoa, Moses GoodsBrandon Finn, among others, on Apple TV; or watch “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” with Kakaʻako-based actor Takehiro Hira, which is also on Apple TV. Details.

Eat pizza. Brick Fire Tavern, which is based in Kaimukī, is donating 100% of proceeds from two specialty items to Chef Hui’s Kona Low Flood Relief Fund. The featured items include the garlic tide pizza, which features garlic shrimp and more, plus a cocktail that includes coffee rum, Ramazzotti Amaro, vanilla cacao and sea salt. Details.

Saturday, April 11

Listen to Ziggy Marley. Reggae star Ziggy Marley will perform live on Saturday, April 11, at The Republik. Ticket proceeds benefit the Waikīkī Community Center, which is building a new library for keiki. Those attending the show can also bring books for keiki as donations. Details.

Kanikapila ma Kaiwiʻula. Bring an ʻukulele or borrow one as part of this jam session held from 10 a.m. to noon on the second Saturday of each month at the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum. Members of the ʻUkulele Guild of Hawaiʻi will share techniques as well as moʻolelo, or stories. The session features songs from “He Mele Aloha: A Hawaiian Songbook,” which is available for purchase at the museum’s Shop Pacifica. The event is included in general admission, which is $19.95 for kamaʻāina. Details.

Sunday, April 12

Visit ʻIolani Palace for free. ʻIolani Palace hosts Kamaʻāina Sunday which includes live music, activities and a chance to explore the palace for free. The upcoming event features performances from Hālau ʻo Nāpualaʻikauikaʻiu, led by Kumu Hula Sallie Yoza, as well as the Kamehameha Schools Kapālama Ka Mōʻī Jazz Ensemble and Royal Hawaiian Band. Learn how to make floral kūpeʻe with Maxeen Shea, take kōnane lessons and find activities for keiki. Finally, there will be a free ʻūkēkē workshop with limited space, led by Mahi La Pierre. Details.

Listen to Mele Haliʻa: Alan Akaka and Ke Kula Mele Hawaiʻi. Catch this showcase of traditional steel guitar as Alan Akaka presents his students from Ke Kula Mele Hawaiʻi. The hourlong performance is free and starts at 5 p.m. at the Waikīkī Beach Walk Plaza Stage.
