Wai‘anae's Max Holloway has been selected as one of two cover athletes for EA Sports UFC 6.
Former UFC light heavyweight champion and future heavyweight challenger Alex Pereira was named the cover athlete of the game's standard edition, which will be released on June 19 at a price point of $69.99 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
Holloway will be on the cover of the game's ultimate edition, which players can access on June 12 for $99.99. Per EA Sports, the Ultimate Edition includes a bevy of additional features and can be pre-ordered at this link.
“Max Holloway was selected for the UFC 6 Ultimate Edition cover because he represents everything fans love about the sport: elite skill, relentless pace, heart and authenticity. As a former champion and one of the most exciting fighters in UFC history, his impact inside and outside the Octagon makes him a natural choice as a cover athlete for the franchise," Jennifer Poulson, EA Sports senior director of franchise strategy and marketing, told Aloha State Daily by email.
Holloway, a 2010 Wai‘anae alumnus, is the first Hawai‘i high school graduate ever to be a cover athlete for a major video game. Former McKinley High School student Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was on the cover of WWE 2K14 in 2013.
EA Sports first produced a UFC video game in 2014, starting with EA Sports UFC. EA Sports UFC 2 was released in 2016. A new edition of the game was released every other year until UFC 5 was released after a three-year wait in 2023.
EA Sports has yet to release a preview of UFC 6's gameplay. The organization said on social media that the "full reveal is coming soon."
Holloway, 34, has been in the UFC since 2012 and was the promotion's featherweight champion from 2016 to 2019. Considered a legend in the sport prior to his BMF title fight at UFC 300 on April 13, 2024, Holloway leaped into combat sports superstardom with a last-second knockout of Justin Gaethje to claim the BMF belt.
Holloway (27-9) defended his BMF belt against Dustin Poirier with a victory at UFC 318 in New Orleans on July 19, 2025, then relinquished the belt with a loss to Charles Oliveira at UFC 326 on March 7.
At No. 4 in the UFC lightweight rankings, Holloway remains in title contention. His next fight has yet to be announced, but he said on his personal YouTube channel following his loss to Oliveira that he isn't done chasing big names and big fights, preferring a rematch with worldwide superstar Conor McGregor. The two first fought in Boston on Aug. 17, 2013, with McGregor winning via unanimous decision.
