Akira Japanese Restaurant, known for wide variety of Japanese cuisine, ranging from sushi to teishoku sets, recently launched a new happy hour menu. Happy hour is available daily from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and from 8 to 9:30 p.m.

The happy hour menu features a variety of drinks, cold and hot appetizers, sushi and noodles. Drink specials include hot sake ($6.50), draft yuzu beer ($4), house red and white wines by the glass ($6.50) and sake shots ($3 each).
While many of the dishes can be found on the eatery’s regular menu, there are several happy hour specials, including goma (sesame) kanpachi ($12) and yuzu jalapeno hamachi ($12). The hamachi sashimi is fresh with a slight heat from the jalapeno.

The featured sashimi of the day ($15 for six pieces) features three types of fish. The chef’s choice changes daily; during our visit, Spanish mackerel, bluefin tuna and tai snapper were featured.

Similarly, the sushi of the day ($13 for three pieces) features a rotating selection that changes daily. Other sushi options include spicy tuna rolls ($9), shrimp tempura roll ($10) and a chirashi bowl ($14), which includes three type of fish and ikura.

Cold appetizers range from oysters with ponzu ($3 each) — which features generously sized oysters — and ‘ahi poke ($9) to steamed Kona abalone tataki ($17) and homemade tamagoyaki (four pieces for $4.50).
The oysters are a customer favorite; oyster shooters are also available for $6.50 each.
Several dishes are exclusive to the eatery’s late-night happy hour. After 8 p.m., customers can enjoy zaru udon or soba ($10), zaru ramen (served with natto, shiso, nori and green onions) and yuzu chicken ramen ($13).
