UBAE, which stands for “ube before anything else,” is known for its dessert menu that’s centered on purple yam. The business’s original Kalihi store opened in 2017.

The business just opened its second location in Pearlridge Center (Uptown, next to Cookie Corner in the former space of Hot Dog on a Stick).

This new location features some of UBAE’s bestselling treats, including ube tarts (four for $8.65, eight for $16.45), 4-ounce ube cheesecakes ($6.26), ube crinkle cookies (six for $10.59) and dairy-free soft serve ($8). Customers can choose from ube, pandan or an ube-pandan swirl for the soft serve, with the option to add toppings and drizzles for an additional charge.

The business’s UBAE bowls ($11.75) — comprising soft serve, up to four toppings, and a drizzle (honey, chocolate, coconut syrup, ube puree or Cookie Butter) — are also available at this location.

“I look forward to getting the bowl because there’s fruits inside,” business owner Jeremy Jataas says.

The Pearlridge Center store features exclusive menu items like the Ubaegato ($9.50) — the business’s twist on affogato — and ube slushie ($7). The Ubaegato features soft serve topped with a shot of hot espresso. Customers have the option to add espresso or soft serve (additional $1.50) to take their ube slushies to the next level.

“You can only get that (the Ubaegato and slushies) here; it’ll eventually be on that side (the Kalihi store),” Jataas says. “Everybody likes caffeine; at this location, we notice a lot of people get the soft serve and the slushy. The tarts are still king, but a lot of people do a swirl (for the soft serve).”

The business also offers ube mamon ($4.86), or a soft, fluffy, Filipino sponge cake.

The store’s grand opening celebration date is still to come; stay updated by following the business on Instagram.

“We got the slushy and espresso; we got some good products coming out on this side,” Jataas says.

UBAE’s Pearlridge Center store is currently open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Mondays to Saturdays, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
