Calling all dinkers! Northwestern Mutual Hawaiʻi has opened registration for its charity pickleball tournament set for late September.
Dubbed Pickling with a Purpose, the tournament’s proceeds will support Kapiʻolani Medical Center for Women & Children’s new Martha B. Smith Cancer & Infusion Center, which is slated to open in summer 2027 to advance cancer treatment and support programs for local families.
The tournament is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Pickles at Forté (1032 Fort Street Mall) in Downtown Honolulu. Organizers expect to fill 128 player slots (doubles teams) and welcomes community members to come cheer, join raffles and prize drawings for all participants and enjoy refreshments. “All skill levels are welcome; we’ll have divisions for beginner, advanced beginner, and intermediate players,” according to Eventbrite.
“We are honored to bring the community together for a day of friendly competition in support of Kapiʻolani Medical Center,” said Jamie Delgadillo, managing partner of Northwestern Mutual Hawaiʻi, in a statement. “Pickling with Purpose is an opportunity for businesses, neighbors and clients to enjoy the game while making a direct impact on local healthcare services families rely on.”
Last year, Northwestern Mutual Hawaiʻi contributed $15,000 to Kapiʻolani Health Foundation, the nonprofit that supports Kapiʻolani Medical Center, which kicked off this campaign, according to Director of Marketing Erika Galarneau.

Individual tickets start at $100 per person, and include round-robin play, lunch and lounge access with beverages and snacks, on-site activities, and a pau hana reception. Attendees who are not playing can also purchase Lunch Only tickets for $21.99, or simply donate to the cause via Eventbrite.
Lounge Sponsors are already sold-out, but Court Sponsors and Community Champions are still available. So far, sponsors for the pickleball tournament include TriState Capital Bank, Altres, Avantis Investors, Cohen & Steers, J. Kadowaki Inc., Lord, Abbett & Co LLC, The Systemcenter, Pacific Guardian Center, Goldman Sachs and Hawaiʻi Pacific Health.
Northwestern Mutual Hawaiʻi first opened in the Islands in 1970 and became an independent network office with 100% local ownership in August 2024. Its office is located in Downtown Honolulu at 737 Bishop St. at the Pacific Guardian Center. The company offers financial planning through both insurance and investments, among other services.
