Due to the impending storm set to hit the Islands, a bevy of sporting events statewide have been altered.
On Friday morning, the Hawai‘i DOE announced that all school facilities in Hawai‘i Island, Maui, Lana‘i and Molokai will be closed starting at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. O‘ahu and Kaua‘i schools will be closed starting on Saturday. The closures include sporting facilities, calling off a multitude of scheduled high school football and volleyball games on Saturday. While Saturday is out of commission for high school football, some games have been moved up from Saturday to Friday in order to fit the games in. Utah's Orem High School will take on Kamehameha at 5:30 p.m., a game originally scheduled for Saturday night.
A pair of collegiate soccer contests at the University of Hawai‘i have also been moved from Sunday to Saturday. Hawai‘i will play Kansas State at 12:30 p.m., on Saturday, with a contest between Seattle and Texas Tech to follow.
Meanwhile, the UH football team's Saturday scrimmage, which marks two weeks until its Aug. 29 season opener at Stanford, was moved up from 10 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
The Sistahhood Social, a fundraising event organized by Hawai‘i football coach Timmy Chang and his wife, Sherry, was originally set for Saturday evening. It has been canceled due to the impending weather.
The University of Hawai‘i women's volleyball team was supposed to go to the Big Island to play a Saturday exhibition match against Hawai‘i-Hilo, but the match was scrapped on Thursday.
