The HI93 Hawaiʻi’s Local Hits’ Local Break Battle of the Bands is back.

The winner of the second annual competition will get eight hours of studio time, a free mix and master with Le Vanta Records and $1,500.

“The thing I love the most about Local Break is showcasing the up [and] coming talent that the Island has to offer,” Austin Correia, event coordinator and media consultant for Pacific Media Group, who is spearheading the project, told Aloha State Daily.

The first round of performers, which took the stage on Oct. 7, included Rootz of Kreation, The Ukus and Connor Johnson, who competed at Secret Spot Honolulu in Waikīkī. Rootz of Kreation won first place and The Ukus took second place, with both advancing to the finals.

In the second round of the competition, which takes place on Wednesday, Oct. 21, Smerkk & Co., Ocean Effect and The Mauve will compete, also at Secret Spot Honolulu.

“This second round has three bands all in the Indie/alternative rock genre, but each of them have their own take on the genre,” Correia told ASD. “I'm looking forward to seeing how each band takes their spin on alternative music.”

Sponsors of the event include Pacific Media Group, Hele Gas, Aloha State Daily, Le Vanta Records and Capitol Modern. Tickets are $10. Get tickets.
