A "legacy" oceanfront property on Maui's Keawakapu Beach is for sale with a $20.5 million asking price.

Enclosed in a private, gated compound, the property — located at 3146 S. The property sits on 0.8 acres.

"This is truly a legacy property," Hawai‘i Life's David Richardson, the listing agent, told Aloha State Daily in an emailed response to questions. "My clients purchased the lot in 1988 and custom-built the home to suit their family’s specific needs. It was always intended as a family compound where their children and, now, grandchildren could gather and enjoy time together. Originally from Alberta, Canada, they spent approximately six months each year on Maui and rarely traveled elsewhere. Properties with this kind of history and longstanding family connection are exceptionally special and don't come to market often."

According to information provided by representatives of Hawai‘i Life, the main home was designed by architect Tim Farrington for the current owners.

"Designed with architectural integrity and island sensibility, the home features traditional Dickey rooflines topped with black glazed tiles imported from Japan," the listing notes.

Richardson says that one of the home's most distinctive features is the classic double-pitch Dickey roofline with about 2,500 square feet of wraparound lanais.

Built as a single-level home, he told ASD, too, that the great room features sliding glass doors along all three ocean-facing sides, which open to create "a classic kama‘āina beachfront setting with a touch of understated elegance."

"Keawakapu Beach is known for its expansive stretch of white sand and my clients specifically chose 3146 S. Kīhei Road for its location midway between the beach’s furthest public access points," Richardson says. "Unlike many other oceanfront properties, this stretch of beach tends to feel much more private, without the larger crowds that often gather near public access points."

The home offers "the flexibility to be enjoyed as openly and privately" as the owner wishes, Richarson told ASD.

The ideal buyer, he says, is "someone ready to become the next steward of a truly special beachfront home and create their own family legacy."
