Hush Hush is a new speakeasy in Pint + Jigger
The speakeasy is currently open Fridays to Sundays for cocktails. The entrance is hidden in plain sight inside Pint + Jigger. The speakeasy’s menu now features a New Orleans-style theme with drinks like Sazerac, Grasshopper, and libations with absinthe.

Mahalo Noodle Waikīkī offers Okinawan soba
The eatery focuses on Okinawan soba, which includes a wheat-based noodle instead of buckwheat. Other menu items include tan tan Okinawan soba and traditional seasoned rice bowls.

Hideaway Coffeeshop opened in Wahiawā at the beginning of May. Business owner Steph Maldonado describes the space as a “speakeasy-like coffee shop” and features customizable drinks with housemade syrups.

Neko Koneko is a Tokyo-meets-Hawaiʻi café
The café — whose name derives from the Japanese word for “cat” — opened in October 2021, and is inspired by its owners’ love for coffee, travel and Japanese heritage. While the business is known for its 16-ounce bottled cold brews, it also offers a traditional menu with in-store drinks.

Naks Pan is a new salt bread business on Oʻahu
The home bakery specializes in shio pan, or salt bread, and cream pan. The Japanese bread rolls are available in a variety of flavors, while the cream pan buns are filled with custard. The biz will be popping up at the Taste of Aloha market on July 11.

Local high school students learn to cook under Chef Thomas Wong
As part of a scholarship-supported summer culinary cohort at Kapi‘olani Community College’s Culinary Institute of the Pacific, Wong — who is from Oʻahu and is now based in California as a professor at Culinary Institute of America at Greystone — created this custom curriculum to challenge teens in an intensive five days of training. Teamwork, timeliness, organization and having a good attitude were among the lessons learned by students.

Masala Māya is a new concept featuring Indian dishes to-go
Chef Vikram Garg’s new to-go concept features authentic Indian flavors, including dishes like chicken curry, pork vindaloo, Goan shrimp curry and lamb rogan josh. Masala Māya is open for online ordering from Wednesdays to Sundays; customers can pick up their orders at Umi by Vikram Garg in Waikīkī or opt for delivery.
