I always appreciate a good sushi deal. Starting April 1, Doraku Sushi Kakaʻako is starting a temaki Tuesday special. The special is available all day on Tuesdays at the restaurant’s sushi counter only, and it’s exclusive to this location. However, if the temaki deal is well received, it might expand to other Doraku Sushi locations.

So, what does temaki Tuesday include?

To start, you can get temaki hand rolls for $6 to $8. These hand rolls are exclusive to the Tuesday special; you won’t find them on the eatery’s regular menu.

Choose from spicy tuna ($6), spicy salmon ikura ($7), spicy Hamachi ($7) and negitoro takuan ($8) hand rolls. Of the four, my favorite is the spicy salmon ikura, which is topped with bonito flakes.

If you want a little of everything, go for the temaki set ($38). It includes miso soup, all four hand rolls, and an Aoki sake flight. The latter comprises Aoki Junmai ginjo, Aoki ultra premium and Nigori. This sake flight usually costs $18 to $20 a la carte.

Temaki Tuesday also includes a set of aburi (flame-seared) nigiri. You can get a nigiri tasting set ($31), which comprises otoro, kinmedai, Hamachi, salmon and hotate nigiri. Customers can also opt for the aburi nigiri set ($43), which includes miso soup, all five aburi nigiri and an Aoki sake flight.

While all five nigiri were flavorful, I especially liked the hotate — which came topped with sweet miso and uni — and otoro with black tobiko. Talk about luxe options that are included in the set price.

The temaki Tuesday deal will be available every Tuesday from April to June.

Pro tip: Parking is free during lunch in the Pacifica Honolulu structure (look for the designated Doraku Sushi stalls), but street parking is also available.
