As kids, we’re often told not to play with our food. But these capybara treats are so jiggly, you won’t be able to resist.

Maxi My Latte is a new online business that launched last month, and it specializes in “flancheese” desserts. They’re a hybrid of flan and cheesecake, with flan’s jiggly texture and cheesecake’s creamy flavor.

You can get these desserts in two ways — by contacting Maxi My Latte directly via Instagram direct message, or by stopping by Kakaʻako-based Sabrozon Fresh Mexican Food (575 Cooke St.). Maxi My Latte provides the food truck with desserts; check out the featured selection in the refrigerator.

Choose from four flancheese creatures — rabbit ($6), cat ($8), dinosaur ($8) and capybara ($10). The capybara is the most popular (it’s also the largest one). Getting one of these specific desserts might result in a few tries; I first went to the food truck around 1 p.m. one day and no capybaras were in stock. However, I tried another day around 11 a.m. and got my hands on one.

But why capybaras? These large rodents, native to South America, are trendy in Japan — so the business decided to have them star in their desserts.

Right now, only two flavors are available — strawberry and vanilla. I’m told vanilla is more popular, but no matter what you order, rest assured your dessert will boast that signature jiggly texture and creaminess once you dig in. The texture reminded me of a panna cotta, and the dessert itself isn’t overly sweet. It’s almost too cute to eat … almost.

While the capybaras are adorable — and unique; I’ve never seen a treat in this shape before — the dinosaur shape is also cute.

If you order directly from Maxi My Latte, you can choose from a wider selection of animal shapes. The mini mice ($5 for two) and mini rabbits ($5 for two) are especially cute.
