One picture of Walking Bean Café’s shave ice had me stop scrolling on Instagram and immediately make plans to check it out.

Walking Bean Café opened earlier this year on Kapahulu Avenue. The café features a variety of matcha lattes, shave ice and other desserts.
During our first visit, we tried the ube matcha latte ($6.75), Oreo Fountain shave ice ($12.95) and almond mochi latte ($6.50). The latte boasted a strong matcha flavor, while the ube was subtle. Meanwhile, the Oreo Fountain shave ice was a photogenic concoction of house chocolate powder, Oreo cream topping, marshmallow, chocolate sauce, cookies and cream ice cream, shave ice milk sauce, and a sugar cone on the side. Contrary to popular belief, the dessert wasn’t as sweet as it looks.

The shop recently launched new Dubai chocolate bar-inspired desserts — which are all the rage right now.

The Dubai chocolate lava cheesecake ($15.50) is the featured special of the month; a limited number of these desserts are available daily. Luscious cheesecake is topped with ice cream, hot fudge, pistachio cream and kataifi. It’s on the sweeter side, thanks to the ice cream, and we loved the contrasting textures.

While the Dubai chocolate strawberry cups ($15.50) were a featured March special, they were so popular that the café decided to extend their availability to April as well. The chopped strawberries are topped with chocolate sauce, creamy pistachio sauce, crispy kataifi and a petite macaron. It’s ideal if you prefer fruitier desserts but want a touch of indulgence. Plus, both of the Dubai-inspired treats are only available for this month.
There’s limited parking for customers in the small lot behind the café.
