Five-time World Surf League champion and Olympic gold medalist Carissa Moore is hosting a mother-daughter weekend on Aug. 30-31 at the Outrigger Kā'anapali Beach Resort in Lahaina.
The inaugural event, titled "Riding Your Waves of Joy: Building Self-Worth," is hosted by Moore Aloha, a charitable foundation started by Moore in 2018 that aims to empower and unite women.
The event will involve mothers and daughters, aged 8 and older, in "an immersive experience designed to foster confidence, self-worth, and intergenerational connection," per Outrigger.
Although admission to the event is free, spots are limited and on an invite-only basis. Invites will be chosen based on video submissions that last from one to three minutes, with Aug. 1 as the deadline to submit. The criteria:
- If you and your mom were a team, what would be your motto?
- What is one thing you love doing together and why?
Applications can be submitted at this link.
Ocean-based activities, cultural activations and mindfulness workshops are among the events listed for the weekend.
Moore Aloha was founded in the middle of Moore's surfing prime in 2018. Moore, who won WSL titles in 2011, 2013, 2015, 2019, 2021, was also the women's gold medalist in surfing's debut at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021.
Moore, 32, a Honolulu native and Punahou alumna, founded Moore Aloha with the mission to support girls and women with mental health and wellness. Since then, Moore Aloha has provided support with educational resources, community and cultural activities, and other activations.
In January 2024, Moore announced she was stepping away from competitive surfing in order to focus on the next chapter of her life. On Feb. 25, Moore announced the birth of her daughter, ‘Olena Lililehua Untermann, who was born on Feb. 24, 2025.
