Honolulu Bistro, whose café is located in Ala Moana Center, is known for its sweet and savory gourmet sandwiches. It recently opened its Waikīkī food truck, which has been in the works for a few years, according to business owner Andrew Ulu.

“We have always wanted our second location after Ala Moana Center to be in Waikīkī,” he says. “We specialize in gourmet grilled sandwiches; our menu is currently the same as our restaurant at Ala Moana Center. However, we are excited to have some new items coming soon.”

Savory sandwiches include the pastrami ($17) — mozzarella cheese with sliced pastrami, caramelized onions, housemade special sauce and kosher dill pickles on the side — the pesto deluxe ($16) with mozzarella cheese, spinach, sun-dried tomato and pesto; and the Spamwich ($17).

The latter features jumbo white garlic bread stuffed with local Spam, a fried egg, crispy hash browns and American cheese.

Da Aloha ($15) — a rainbow-hued mozzarella cheese sandwich with garlic butter glaze on jumbo white bread — is another popular order.

“Da Aloha gourmet grilled cheese sandwich was inspired by Hawaiʻi being the ‘Aloha State,’ where, everywhere you turn, you see a rainbow,” Ulu says.

If you’re craving sweet sandwiches, opt for the Nutella Fluff ($11) — Nutella and marshmallow fluff topped with powdered sugar — the PB&J, which is a classic combo of creamy or crunchy peanut butter with grape or strawberry jelly; or The PBBH. The latter features crunchy or smooth peanut butter with banana and honey drizzle sandwiched between slices of jumbo white bread. The sandwich is grilled to perfection and dusted with powdered sugar.

The business is expanding its beverage menu, and customers can enjoy new drinks like its cold brew lattes ($6.75). Other options include coconut mocha frappes, cold brews and hazelnut protein frappes.

“We are excited to be starting our new adventure in the coffee world by working with local famers and local roasters,” Ulu says. “We are looking forward to expanding our coffee menu with high-quality espresso coming soon. We want customers to know all of our coffee is a true medium roast, made to order for the best quality and freshness possible.”

Ulu encourages customers to stay tuned for new menu items, and to stay updated by following Honolulu Bistro on social media.

“Mahalo for supporting our local small business; we look forward to seeing you soon,” he says.
