The week ahead in Hawai‘i sports: Back to basketball

After playing four home matches in two days last week, the UH men's volleyball team will not have a home contest until March.

The University of Hawai‘i men's volleyball team's prolonged absence from the Stan Sheriff Center is set to begin. After four home matches over the span of two days last week, the Rainbow Warriors will not have a home contest until March 4.

While the UH men's volleyball team will be away for the next six weeks, both Hawai‘i basketball teams will take turns playing twice a week at the Stan Sheriff Center through early March.

On Thursday, the Hawai‘i men's basketball team will host Cal State Bakersfield on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Rainbow Warriors, despite a loss at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday night, are currently atop the Big West standings at 13-4 overall and 5-2 in conference games. Cal State Bakersfield, meanwhile, is currently at the bottom of the 11-team pack at 8-12 overall and 2-6 in Big West games.

On Saturday at 7 p.m., the Rainbow Warriors will host Cal State Northridge. UH was swept by the Matadors in last year's series. Tickets for Thursday's and Saturday's contests can be purchased here. The Hawai‘i women's basketball team will also play Cal State Bakersfield on Thursday and Cal State Northridge on Saturday, but on the road.

The University of Hawai‘i baseball team will have its annual alumni game on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Les Murakami Stadium. The Rainbow Warriors will begin their regular season on Feb. 13 against Gonzaga.

In local high school sports action, the OIA boys soccer playoffs are beginning on Monday and will conclude on Saturday. The Division II championship game begins at 5 p.m. on Saturday at Kapolei High School, with the Division I championship to follow. In the OIA girls tournament over the weekend, Campbell won the Division I championship with a 2-1 win over Kaiser, while Kailua defeated Radford 3-2 for the Division II championship.

Hawai‘i Pacific's basketball teams will play three home contests each at the Shark Tank. Both men's and women's teams will play Biola on Tuesday, Westmont on Thursday and Concordia on Saturday. Tickets can be purchased at this link.

Hawai‘i-Hilo's basketball teams will play against Westmont on Tuesday, Concordia on Thursday and Biola on Saturday. Tickets can be purchased at this link.
