The University of Hawai‘i softball team is set to begin the Panita Thanatharn era on Thursday, as the Rainbow Wahine will host the Bank of Hawai‘i Paradise Classic from Thursday to Saturday, starting with Seattle University at 5 p.m. on Thursday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Thanatharn, who was hired last June following the retirement of Bob Coolen, is now just days away from officially beginning her first season at the helm.
On the basketball court, both University of Hawai‘i basketball teams will play just one game, both against UC San Diego. The men's team will host the Tritons at 7 p.m. on Saturday, while the Rainbow Wahine will tip off in La Jolla, Calif., at 2 p.m. Tickets for the men's basketball game can be purchased at this link.
PacWest
Fresh off his 100th win on Saturday, Dane Fujinaka and the Hawai‘i Pacific baseball team will have a three-game series against Saint Martin's, playing once each from Friday to Sunday. Chaminade will also play Saint Martin's on Friday and Saturday, as Saint Martin's will have doubleheaders in playing both the Silverswords and Sharks.
Meanwhile, Hawai‘i-Hilo's baseball team, under interim head coach Garett Yukumoto, will host Wayne State for five games from Friday to Sunday to open its season. The Vulcans will play on Friday night, followed by doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
In basketball action, Hawai‘i-Hilo's basketball teams will play at Vanguard on Tuesday, at Biola on Thursday and at Concordia on Saturday. Chaminade's basketball teams will play at Biola on Monday and against Hawai‘i Pacific on Saturday. Meanwhile, Hawai‘i Pacific's basketball teams will play at Azusa Pacific on Monday before the set of games against their crosstown rivals on Saturday.
High school championships
The HHSAA Division I girls basketball championship game will take place on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Division II championship game will be played on Saturday night at the Hilo Civic Center.
The HHSAA canoe paddling championships will take place on Saturday morning at Ke‘ehi Lagoon
The HHSAA Division II boys soccer championship game will take place on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Waipi‘o Peninsula Soccer Complex. The Division I championship will follow.
