Everest Grill opened earlier this year in the former Kogi Aina space in Kāneʻohe. The eatery currently serves popular Indian dishes, but plans to expand its menu to include more Nepali cuisine.

The menu is huge and features a variety of appetizers, curries, tandoor specials, breads and vegetarian friendly dishes.

The popular chicken momo features steamed dumplings; choose from chili and jhol (tomato-based) sauces. The dumplings are filled with onions, cabbage and cilantro, along with Nepali spices.

Other popular appetizers include vegetable samosas ($6.99) — golden fried pastries filled with spiced potatoes — and vegetable momo ($12.99).

Chicken, lamb, shrimp and vegetarian-friendly curries are available. We’re told the chicken tikka masala ($19.99) — grilled chicken in creamy tomato gravy — butter chicken ($19.99) and the lightly spiced shrimp curry ($20.99) are customer favorites.

Popular vegetarian-friendly curries include chana masala ($15.99) — chickpeas simmered in spiced gravy — saag paneer ($17.99), which includes spinach and paneer (Indian cottage cheese), and vegetable korma ($15.99), which features a creamy, nut-based curry.

All curries come with a side of basmati rice. Customers can always add a side of housemade naan ($3.99 to $6.99) a la carte; the eatery’s garlic ($4.99) and garlic cheese naan ($6.99) are the two bestsellers.

Everest Grill’s biryani ($16.99-$21.99) comes highly recommended. The dish features basmati rice cooked with flavorful spices and vegetables, along with your choice of meat (chicken, lamb or shrimp).

The eatery also offers specialty tandoor and grill dishes, which are delivered to your table on sizzling platters. So far, the tandoori chicken ($17.99), lamb chops ($33.99) and lamb boti kebabs ($22.99) have been customer favorites.

The latter features tender lamb chunks that are marinated in spices and served with a creamy yogurt dip. The lamb isn’t overly gamey, and the creamy yogurt dip balances its meaty flavor.

Everest Grill’s selection of desserts and drinks include pista kulfi ($4.99), or creamy pistachio ice cream; gulab jamun ($4.99), or dough balls served in a sugar syrup; and refreshing mango lassi ($4.99).

The eatery is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesdays to Mondays (closed Tuesdays) for dine-in and takeout. There’s limited customer parking in the eatery’s lot.
